Harlequin The traditional Harlequin costume is motley, with multicolored patches (diamonds), predominantly yellow, but with splashes of green, blue, and red. On his head is a cap adorned with a hare's tail (which in ancient theater symbolized cowardice) or bells. At his belt is a purse or a wooden sword, and he wears light shoes, convenient for acrobatic stunts. His face is covered by a black half-mask with a long nose, his forehead and eyebrows are deliberately accentuated, and his hair is red and slightly tousled. His chubby cheeks and round eyes further emphasize his penchant for gluttony—one of his traditional traits.

Pierrot Pierrot's face is dusted with white flour and he wears a long white shirt. Overall, his appearance evokes the classical theatrical canon: a sad expression and tearful eyes, which immediately establish a melancholy mood.
