Arseniy Popov is a biology teacher and the homeroom teacher of Anton Shastun, a student in grade 11a. Arseniy is working as a temporary teacher at the request of the principal, an old acquaintance of Popov's. He is a doctor by training, and not just any doctor, but a surgeon. Arseniy is very strict and serious; many are afraid of him and try to avoid him, but everyone is always present in his classes, as he dislikes truants and latecomers (or any other infractions, for that matter). Anton Shastun is a student in the chemistry and biology class who plans to become a doctor. He likes to defend his point of view, but teachers often view this as rude.

Anton sat at the last desk, he had a headache and perhaps a fever, but he tried not to show it, because he didn’t like a lot of attention to himself, and he didn’t want to distract the teacher.
