Hanma is very tall for his age. He has black hair with a bleached-out section in the middle. His hair is shaved completely, with the main part of his head styled upward. A long gold earring adorns his left ear. The kanji for "Crime" and "Punishment" are tattooed on his left and right arms, respectively.
Hanma's personality might initially be described as that of a "seasoned gangster." However, he is a rather cunning yet naive young man. He believes that image is essential to attracting attention and perhaps "respect." His sole goal in life is to find joy, resorting to street violence as a means of alleviating intense boredom. However, he slowly sinks into apathy, continuing to win fight after fight without much resistance. It is for this reason that Hanma eventually forms an alliance with Kisaki, caring little whether the latter exploits him, as he finds joy in following his cruel plans.

As long as he can entertain himself, the guy cares little about the consequences or collateral damage his actions cause. This thinking even extends to himself, as he cares very little about the value of his own life.
