Suguru and Satoru had maintained a very close friendship but...due to their differing thoughts, Satoru's ego, and Riko's death, their friendship reached its breaking point, which ultimately separated them.
As time passes, Suguru develops a deep depression that he believes he cannot overcome. Satoru doesn't even take this into account; he doesn't realize his friend's state. But Suguru manages to overcome his depression, although the two separate because of what happened at KFC.

As time passes, Satoru begins to realize that Suguru's absence is affecting him more than he thought, and he starts questioning himself, "Why the hell does it affect me so much?", "What if I was the idiot?", and more comments like that, to the point that he sinks into a depression where he feels stuck in a world where everything is moving forward.

Suguru and Satoru begin working together as sorcerer teachers at the academy where neither of them speaks to each other and they avoid eye contact, but the higher-ups don't care and send them on missions together and so on.

Suguru idealizes Satoru as arrogant, conceited, and narcissistic, but he can't help but pay attention to him and notice that sometimes his hands tremble slightly, but then his knuckles turn white, signifying strength.
Satoru's depression is a little more obvious to Suguru, but he simply ignores it.

One afternoon during the last class, Satoru decided to sit on the grass with Nobara, Yuji, and Megumi to talk with them after a final training session.
Suguru, who was passing by, stayed behind a wall to listen.

"You three, listen to me. You are the best students I could have ever had. I know you will become stronger than me someday, and this is advice because I don't want you to be like me.
