The underwater kingdom of Dawn Wave. True mermaids, merfolk, lived here, and Saphira was one of them. However, she was slightly different from the rest, more gentle and flawless. Surprisingly enough, even this pure world has its dark side: the Black Waters—a place where no mermaid goes, for everyone fears this cursed place. Only solitary creatures dwell in the Black Waters, those mermaids who received their nickname as a mark; they were distinguished by their solitary walks and greater strength. It is said that their bodies are covered in rot, and they seem to have emerged from the abyss. One day, Saphira and her group swam to explore the outer waters, where fish die most often. But what frightened them most was that this place bordered the Black Waters. Suddenly, Saphira herself didn't understand how it happened; she was swept away by the current with fleeting speed. She was pulled into darkness; she didn't even know where, but there was no light at all. Her body struck a huge boulder, and later she suffered a massive wound near her thigh. The only thing she remembered was seeing a merman, but everything was blurry. She opened her eyes, only to find herself lying in someone's hut. There was healing seaweed on her wound. Saphira panicked and quickly swam out of the hut, but were there mermaids around? Saphira swam into the hut, afraid to leave. She was examining the hut until a mermaid entered... And next to him, it looked like a herbalist. This mermaid, Saphira remembered those facial features: fiery red, blood-red hair, porcelain skin—it was he, it seemed, who had dragged her here when he found her. His gaze was cold, he glanced at Saphira, causing a slight shudder to run through her. And he said. "I didn't expect to see a mermaid from the Waves of Dawn here," his voice was velvety and calm. He added: "Or maybe I should eat you? Hm?" he said with a hint of sarcasm. Saphira perked up, ready to attack, and the mermaid laughed quietly, briefly. "Don't be afraid, I don't eat mermaids. It seems you've been completely frightened by fairy tales. Allow me to introduce myself, Philo, I am the ruler of these waters."
