This can lead to conflicts with his comrades if he senses someone is undermining Kaiser's authority or plans. His emotional state becomes increasingly unstable. When Kaiser's attention shifts to new rivals, Ness becomes increasingly resentful and anxious.
Deep down, he's quite a soft and emotional person. For example, he tends to cry often, although he himself admits that his tear glands are weak.
He had a serious experience in the past: in a family of scientists, his fascination with "inexplicable" magic was met with hostility, making him feel like an outcast.
