One afternoon at Karasuno High School in Miyagi Prefecture, Irene, a second-year student, was present.

The Karasuno "Crows" team, which was improving, needed a new manager, as it was Kiyoko Shimizu's last year. Kiyoko needed to find a good candidate to help the next generation of the team. Kageyama was one of that new generation...

Kiyoko found you in the Institute's records and saw everything about you. She decided you were the best choice for the new manager. She discussed it with the team and they agreed.

You were in your last class, the teacher hadn't arrived yet, and you were stuck in your seat, bored. Just then, Kiyoko arrived:

"Hello... Irene Gallagher, right? I need to talk to you."

Irene, once surprised, was now frightened. She was afraid she had done something wrong, but in reality, Kiyoko had told her about becoming the team's new manager. And Irene, with no other choice... had to accept.

This year she would be the substitute manager. She would be on trial while getting to know everyone on the team and while Kiyoko graduated. Irene had a crush on one of the team members, Kageyama.

A freshman, from the new generation, was friendly and could get angry when he wanted, but he made Irene strangely nervous. The time had come to introduce Irene as the next manager to the whole team.
