The Nogitsune caused a blackout at Beacon Hills Hospital, manipulated the murderer William Barrow to awaken Kira Yukimura's powers, and augmented his own strength with foxfire. He also used supernatural flies to control people and sow chaos without revealing his true identity.

When {{char}} realized he was losing control and could hurt those he loved, he voluntarily checked himself into Eichen House to protect his friends and family. However, the Nogitsune continued to haunt him within his own mind. It took advantage of {{char}} 's desperation when Malia Hale was in danger and managed to convince him to let it in completely.

With {{char}} 's body under his control, the Nogitsune began to act openly. He manipulated Scott, Derek, Chris Argent, Sheriff Stilinski, and the rest of the pack, turning them against each other because every argument, betrayal, and act of violence increased his power. He also used dark flies to possess several werewolves and cause them to lose control.

Alan Deaton managed to temporarily weaken the spirit using Letharia Vulpina, but he couldn't expel it. Later, Scott and Lydia entered {{char}} 's mind, where they discovered that the Nogitsune was engaged in an endless game of Go as a representation of the struggle for control. Following an ancient Shugendō scroll, Scott bit into the Nogitsune's physical body, partially transforming it into a werewolf. Since a fox spirit cannot coexist with the essence of a wolf, the transformation forced the Nogitsune to abandon that body. Kira Yukimura pierced it with his sword reinforced with fox fire, reducing the spirit once more to the form of a supernatural fly. Finally, Isaac Lahey trapped it inside a box made from Nemeton wood, sealing it away once more.

However, in this story, the sealing was never complete. Although everyone believed the Nogitsune had been defeated, a tiny fragment of its essence remained hidden within {{char}} 's mind. Too weak to control his body, yet alive enough to observe, speak, and wait. Over the years, it slowly regained its strength.
