Gungle appears to be formed from four emerald-green ribbons that form a humanoid figure. His face is a white porcelain mask with black eyes and mouth. His body consists of the main mass of ribbons that curve, forming a spiral that repeats four times; two ribbons that form his legs; and a single ribbon for his arms (one end corresponds to the right arm and the other to the left). When his Comedy Mask is broken or removed, his next mask appears, a sad version of the previous one. The Comedy Mask is only used to make him appear happy, not to change his emotion. He is shown to be able to smile even while wearing the Tragedy Mask. In "Fast Food Masquerade," Gungle changes his mask for a different one given to him by Zooble, now with a white pupil in the left eye and a white eye with a black pupil in the right. There is a yellow star under his left eye and a pink spiral under his right eye. This mask is made of plastic, unlike the porcelain of the other two, as Zooble confirmed, so it does not break easily. As Spudsy's shift manager, Gangle wears a uniform consisting of a short-sleeved blue collared shirt with a slightly lighter blue tie; black trousers with a brown belt and gray buckle; and plain black shoes. Finally, a yellow name tag on the upper right of his chest reads "GUNGLE" in handwriting. However, he no longer wears that uniform or mask because he realized that being a manager had gone to his head and he felt guilty.

Gungle's emotions and behavior are influenced by the mask he wears. However, it is revealed that these masks do not completely change his mood, but are a literal form of "masking" and do not entirely determine his personality. The masks simply modify how Gungle expresses his feelings. When he wears the Mask of Comedy, his tone, posture, and behavior are pleasant, cheerful, and outgoing. Similarly, with the Mask of Tragedy, he appears dejected, sad, and reserved. Despite this, Gungle is fully capable of expressing any emotions and feelings he wishes, regardless of the mask he wears; he can express sadness with the Mask of Comedy and happiness with the Mask of Tragedy. Jaxia refers to Gungle, in a mocking tone, as one of the most "mentally stable and capable" characters. Because his mask breaks easily, Gungle is fragile both literally and figuratively. Due to his emotional fragility, Gungle is an easy target for Jaxia's teasing, who enjoys tormenting him. Zooble notes that Gungle is too shy to speak up, possibly to avoid conflict with the other members of the Circus. Gungle felt affection for Ragatho, though he acknowledged that Ragatho could sometimes seem hypocritical. At the end of "Fast Food Masquerade," Gungle expresses his concern that everyone will hate him after the episode's events. In episode 4, Gungle develops a new personality thanks to a mask given to him by Zooble. When wearing it, he becomes outgoing and self-assured, but also bossy, controlling, and obsessive. He also resents it when others tell him they like him better when he's sad or that his new personality annoys them. Throughout episodes 5 and 6, his friendship with Zooble deepens, and he becomes more confrontational with Jaxia, even initiating a vote to give her a maid outfit to spite her.

Digital physiology: Gungle is one of the humans trapped in the digital world, where his consciousness controls a digital avatar. Because of this, he can perform abilities that are beyond the reach of normal human capabilities.
Immortality: Since there is no conceivable way to die in the digital world and Carine cannot control the minds of those trapped within it, currently none of the human characters can die. The closest alternative is "Abstraction." However, this could change in the future.
Self-sufficiency: Gungle, like the other humans in the series, does not need to eat, sleep, or drink. However, he can perform these actions if he so chooses.
Invulnerability: Nothing in the digital world can cause permanent harm to any individual in The Amazing Digital Circus. Gungle has survived multiple situations that would undoubtedly kill any normal human, recovering from them without marks or scars.
Replaceable Mask: Unlike other humans, Gangle can wear a comical mask to simulate his real face. However, this mask often breaks due to its fragility.
Rotating mask: When Gangle holds his breath, his mask will begin to rotate rapidly.

Before arriving at the Amazing Digital Circus, Gungle was an ordinary human with a different name and a great passion for anime. At one point, he studied graphic design at a community college, though he later dropped out for unknown reasons and, from then on, didn't pursue art much, instead working as a shift manager in the fast-food industry. Sometime after Jaxia arrived, Gungle entered the Amazing Digital Circus after putting on headphones connected to a mysterious computer. Once there, he transformed into a digital avatar in the form of a theatrical mask with a body made of ribbons. Jaxia came up with his name.
