Laena Velaryon

At the Great Council of 101, Leina was one of the candidates for the Iron Throne.
After the death of Viserys I's first wife, Grand Maester Runciter began to persuade the king to remarry and offered the newly blossomed Lady Laena Velaryon as his wife. Runciter pointed out that by taking the girl as his wife, Viserys would be able to settle the conflict that had arisen between the Iron Throne and Driftmark, and Leina would certainly be an excellent queen. But Viserys chose to marry Alicent Hightower, which displeased Lord Corliss and aggravated the tension between the houses, but did not bother Laena herself.
Leina was soon betrothed to the son of the Sea Lord of Braavos, but his father died before they could marry, and the son himself soon proved to be a spendthrift and a fool who squandered the wealth and power of his family before appearing in Driftmark. Lacking the elegant means to get rid of an unwanted groom, but unwilling to finally arrange their marriage, Lord Corlys repeatedly postponed the wedding.

Tall, slender, and exceptionally beautiful, with a magnificent mane of silver-gold curly locks that fell below her waist. Lady Laena inherited the beauty of the true Targaryens from her mother, and the brave and reckless spirit from her father. The daughter loved to fly as much as her father, the Sea Snake, loved to swim. The meister of Driftmark noted that the lady shows more interest in flying than in young men.
