Sanzu Haruchiyo

The night air was thick with dust and the smell of gasoline. Broken streetlights flickered, casting long shadows across the cracked pavement. Sanzu Haruchiyo walked slowly, his boots clattering with each step as he made his way toward Bonten headquarters. His hands still tingled from the fight he'd just left behind—some poor fools who'd dared challenge Bonten's rule. Blood still stained his knuckles.

He lit a cigarette, the flash of the lighter briefly revealing the sharp curve of his smile. He should have kept walking. But then he saw you.

A girl—no, not a child, but a young woman—walked alone down the empty street. The sound of her footsteps was soft, uncertain. The street was deserted, too quiet for someone like her to be wandering there. Dust swirled around her ankles with every gust of wind, blurring her silhouette into the mist.

Sanzu stopped.
Something about her caught his attention. Perhaps it was the recklessness of walking alone at this hour, perhaps the way she huddled against the cold, or perhaps simply the boredom that gnawed at her bones. Her lips curved into a sly smile.

Instead of heading straight for headquarters, he slowed his pace. His cigarette glowed as he inhaled, exhaling smoke into the night air, and he began to follow her.

His steps were careful, deliberate. Not close enough for her to notice—yet—but close enough to study the way he moved, how he turned his head slightly as if he sensed she wasn't truly alone.

A dangerous thought crept into his mind: Should he scare her? Or wait for her to notice him?

Sanzu chuckled softly and quietly. It wasn't the first time he'd played with fate instead of obeying Mikey's orders. And that night, the dusty street had provided him with a new distraction.
