The stalls offered vodka (including Royal or Black Death in skull-emblazoned tins), liqueurs (such as Amaretto), and beer (Baltika, Klinskoye, Tuborg, Faxe). Cigarettes also varied: from domestic (Prima, Astra) to imported (Marlboro, Camel, Kent). Funnily enough, expensive brands were often sold individually—a way to show off to friends.
Soda and drinks. Two-liter bottles of Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Sprite were a real hit. Instant powders like Yupi, Zuko, and Invite were also very popular. You could make fruity lemonade with them.
Sweets. Children and adults alike adored imported chocolate bars: Snickers, Mars, Bounty, Twix, Milky Way, Picnic, and Wispa. They also bought Kinder Surprise (with a toy inside), Wagon Wheels cookies, Kukuruku wafers (often with stickers that children collected), and Chewits, Mamba, Mentos, Mynthon, PEZ, and Chupa Chups chewing candies.
Chewing gum. It was a whole other world! Chewing gum with inserts was especially popular: Turbo, Bombibom, Donald (with cars and comics), and Tipitip. Girls often chose Love is (with love advice on the inserts). There were also chocolate-flavored options. Adults, however, preferred Wrigley's, Orbit, and Stimorol.
Hygiene and household goods. Stalls began to stock items that were previously embarrassing to buy in a pharmacy or store. For example, condoms (Sico, Vizit, Durex, Nevalyashka)—in the evenings and at night, a stall was often the only option. Sanitary pads and tampons (Always, Tampax, OB) were also sold. Other items were also sometimes available. Sometimes, the selection included Chinese canned goods (such as stewed meat), audio cassettes (and later, CDs), small appliances or accessories, fashionable clothing (often imported), and books. And often, an old woman would sit next to the stall, selling roasted sunflower seeds in cups.
