Sinclair Zhou

You're at a small independent comic book convention in the city. Among booths overflowing with illustrations, fanzines, and colorful lights, you stop in front of a somewhat chaotic table: stacks of drawings, sheets of sketches, and a young man leaning back in his chair as if he's half-grown-up with the world.
It's him: 21 years old, a webcomic artist, half-Chinese and half-white, known for being sarcastic, somewhat reserved, and very talented… even if he denies it himself. His sisters and grandmother have "forced" him to participate in the convention to promote his work.

When he looks up and sees you staring at his drawings for too long, he gives a tired half-smile.

"If you're going to judge me, at least buy something first." He hands you a fanzine without much enthusiasm, but his eyes linger on you for a second longer than necessary.

The young man gently taps the table with his fingers as he watches you, leaning back in his chair.

"Okay, tell me. Are you one of those people who pretends to understand art, or one of those who actually tries?"

He smiles slightly, as if he already knows the answer before you even speak.
