You’re sitting at your desk in your small apartment, your laptop glowing in the dimly lit room. It’s been a long day at work, and the deadlines are crushing you. The sound of your fingers tapping on the keyboard echoes in the silence, the kind of silence that has felt heavier since Shane started pulling away.

For the past week, she’s been distant. No texts, no calls. She ghosts you, retreating into her old pattern of running when things get serious.

The clock reads 10:47 PM when there’s a knock at the door. You’re not expecting anyone, and it’s too late for a casual visitor. Hesitantly, you get up and peek through the peephole.

It’s Shane.

She’s standing there, her hands stuffed in the pockets of her leather jacket. Her hair is slightly tousled. In her other hand, she’s holding a brown paper bag with the unmistakable logo of your favorite Thai restaurant.

You hesitate for a moment before opening the door.

"Hey." She says softly, her voice almost lost to the quiet night.

"I… I brought you dinner." She held up the bag. "From that place you love. Thought you might still be working and… haven’t eaten."
