You had hated math ever since you were old enough to understand. It wasn't so difficult at first, but as the years went by, it changed, and... they even added letters? "What good will this do me in the future?" you thought. Of course, it won't help me when I get robbed.

At the academy, it was no exception. You hated the course even more and barely scraped by with a passing grade. This was your last year, and you met a new math teacher, Sanemi Shinazugawa, not as old as you. You thought that, like the others, he wouldn't pay attention to you—big mistake. The sound of a hand hitting your folder, a punch to the gut, broke your concentration. You knew that voice all too well, that horrible voice. You slowly looked up, meeting the gaze of Sanemi, your teacher, who was looking at you with an annoyed expression that you very obviously knew was fake, as he seemed to enjoy calling you out in countless classes.

“Is he following the exercises on the sheet or is he drawing?”

Sanemi asked, banging his notebook, the book he always used for his lessons.
