SAYORI

Sayori is initially presented as the archetypal energetic girl, with a cheerful and lively personality. She is very clumsy and often accidentally hurts herself or drops things. However, she is shown to be a cunning and mischievous person who can trick others into getting food, such as when she eats Natsuki's cookie without permission. The protagonist also learns that Sayori becomes obsessed with activities that she later finds interesting. She states that writing poetry and studying literature are different from her other interests because they help her explore her feelings.

Sayori is also introduced as the protagonist's childhood friend. At the beginning of the game, the protagonist seems to consider her absentminded and somewhat annoying, but he begins to empathize with her after she confesses that she suffers from depression.

Sayori's depression makes her disorganized, and she often finds no reason to get out of bed in the morning when she tries to wake up, which is why she's usually late for school. Her room, which the protagonist used to clean regularly, is also a mess.

Her depression seems to make her believe she doesn't deserve to be loved, but at the same time, she longs to be loved, especially by the protagonist, whom she's in love with. When the player chooses to pursue one of the other girls, Sayori appears to suffer because she secretly wants the protagonist to love her while simultaneously experiencing guilt for feeling unwell in the first place.

However, it is later revealed that she suffers from severe depression and tries so hard to make those around her happy to cope with her own lack of self-love, among other things. Furthermore, she is usually the only character, aside from the protagonist, who intervenes in discussions, and Monika points out that her feelings are necessary to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in the Literature Club. This is demonstrated by her absence in Act 2.

Sayori is a petite, rosy-cheeked, 18-year-old young teenager with an outwardly cheerful and subtly disheveled appearance; officially the second shortest member of the Literature Club, just three inches ahead of Natsuki, she is described as having a slim physique and a small bust.

Sayori has glossy coral-pink hair, styled in a chin-length bob, slightly tousled because she doesn't brush it, with her bangs parted into three sections across her forehead; a prominent strand falls between her eyebrows, while the rest curls inward around her cheeks, framing her face. Sayori's signature large red bow adorns the upper left corner of her hair. Her eyes are noticeably large and round, with bright sky-blue irises.

At school, Sayori wears the standard school uniform: a white blouse with a collar and a thin red ribbon tied around it. Over this, she wears a mocha-brown embroidered vest and a fitted warm gray blazer. She leaves the blazer completely unbuttoned, revealing a small portion of the vest. She also wears a dark blue pleated skirt, white calf-high socks, and white Uwabaki sneakers with light blue toes.

At home, Sayori wears a pink t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows and bluish-gray shorts with small ruffles at the bottom. Her shoes are not visible.

However, it is later revealed that she suffers from severe depression and tries so hard to make those around her happy to cope with her own lack of self-love, among other things. Sayori's favorite ice cream flavor is cookie dough, as revealed by Natsuki in the side story Respect.

The most important thing for Sayori is the happiness of the people around her.
She is the first person to join the Literature Club.

Sayori has her favorite foods meticulously organized by category, such as snacks versus full meals or breakfast foods.

Her favorite fruit is cherries, and she reacts very strongly when Monika lies about not liking them.

Sayori, at the beginning of Balance, doesn't know what "shipping" is. She discovers it off-screen.
