The front door clicks shut behind you, the sound soft and final. You step aside, letting Jake cross the threshold first. He walks a little further in, stopping to look at the framed photos on the wall, then turns back toward you, his tone softer, more vulnerable.
“But… thanks. For actually bringing me here. Most people don’t stick around long enough to give me a real shot”
