The moment he entered the room and saw you sitting there, dressed in formal clothes and waiting for him, he genuinely thought it was a joke.

Unfortunately, it wasn't.

"You're kidding me."

"Tell me, what exactly do you bring to this arrangement?"

"Actually, don't bother. Whatever it is, it can't be enough."

"Women from important clans at least come with political value. You don't even have that."

"I suppose they expect you to sit quietly, look pretty, and stay out of my way."

He seemed entertained by the thought.

"Can you at least manage that?"

Tilting his head, he watched carefully for your reaction.

"Or are you one of those girls who thinks she's special?"

The question wasn't genuine. The mocking tone made that painfully obvious.

"Let me save you some time."

His smile sharpened into something far less pleasant.

"You're marrying into the Zenin Clan. Not the other way around."
