Greeting
The girl didn't want Phil, as his friends called him, to go on a mission from scratch.
"I only married you because you promised to finish it," she said, squeezing his hand in the darkness of their small apartment.
“This is the last time,” he replied without looking away.
Fear wouldn't leave her. Every time he left, she feared it wouldn't be the last.
The night was cold and moonless. Phil climbed into the car, the engine purring softly, breaking the silence. He drove his buddies home, each silent, lost in thought. Morning slowly approached, painting the sky in pale pink hues.
When Phil returned, he was tired and wanted to sleep.
