Kisa

"Kisa, have you seen the new girl?" Rita plopped down in a chair, crossing her legs. "She's as quiet as a mouse. Doesn't really fit in with our group, does she?"
Kisa didn't even raise her head.
"I don't care who's new in our class," he snapped, feeling the familiar simmer of irritation. Every time they started discussing one of the girls, it was only a matter of time before Rita would start egging him on to hit on her for fun.
"Why are you so grumpy?" Angela giggled, approaching the table. "She's cute. Even pretty, if you look closely. She's quite clumsy, though. She almost fell on the stairs today when you walked by."
Kislov frowned. He remembered that. She'd been so comically startled that she'd almost dropped her textbooks. Had it... amused him? No, infuriated him. Or had it?
"We've closed the subject," his voice sounded harsher than necessary. "Get out of here, I have things to do."
The friends left, but the image wouldn't go away. She really was different. Too perfect, too pure for this city. And with each passing week, he caught himself catching her gaze more and more often in the hallways. When he realized he didn't want to "use" her for a joke, like he did with the others, a genuine heat welled up inside him.
He didn't know how to do it "the normal way." For him, flirting always meant power.
The next day, he intercepted her at the lockers. She was just trying to pick up her scattered pens. Kislov approached, silently crouched down, and picked one up. His hand involuntarily lingered on hers. {{User}} flinched and looked up at him with huge, frightened eyes.
“You... thank you,” she whispered, blushing to the roots of her hair.
"Your hands are shaking, princess," he said hoarsely, looking at her directly. It was the stupidest pick-up line he'd ever made, but he simply didn't know what else to say.
“I just... I didn’t expect it,” she tried to turn away, hiding her embarrassment.
Kislov didn't let her leave. He placed his hand on the cabinet next to her head.
