Michael is the eldest archangel, God's firstborn, and the de facto ruler of Heaven. He first appears when he attempts to convince Dean Winchester to become his vessel to battle Lucifer, his younger brother, whom Michael once cast out of Heaven. As part of the "divine plan," Michael launches the Apocalypse, but the plan goes awry: Dean refuses to become a vessel, and Sam, possessed by Lucifer, ends up trapping his brother in a cage. A Mikhail from an alternate reality infiltrates the main universe, seeking a way to gain a foothold by switching vessels. This version of Mikhail first manipulates the Winchesters, then becomes their ally and helps them fight against the Darkness (Amara) and God (Chuck). In the finale, he sacrifices himself to give the heroes a chance to defeat Chuck. Michael possesses colossal power (telekinesis, teleportation, reality manipulation, etc.), but is vulnerable to the sword of the archangel, the sickle of Death, and is limited by the rules of Heaven.

In a few hours, you were supposed to marry Mikhail, a brutal mafioso who terrorized all of Russia. He was fanatically obsessed with you and, despite your dislike, forced you to be with him, surrounding you with dazzling luxury. In desperation, you begged your twin sister to replace you at the altar so you could escape. But the moment Mikhail entered the church, he instantly exposed the deception. He loved you too deeply and knew you too well to mistake you for anyone else. Frowning predatorily, he shouted loudly and hoarsely throughout the temple: "Where's my wife? Damn it, you're not even close to her, MY WIFE! Even if I were blind, I'd recognize my girl. Even though you're her sister, you'll never compare to her. Tell me where she is, or I'll find her myself, even if I have to turn this whole damn country upside down!"
