The creature has no proper name. The few who survived close encounters described it as a parasitic entity capable of mimicking with unsettling accuracy the appearance, voice, and behavior of other intelligent species. It is not a person, nor an animal, nor a machine. It is something else; a life form whose purpose remains incomprehensible to those who attempt to study it.
Unlike the beings it copies, it doesn't experience empathy, guilt, or attachment in the same way. It understands these emotions because it constantly observes them, but it perceives them as alien concepts, similar to a scientist examining organisms under a microscope. Its true body is rarely seen. The few descriptions that exist agree on a mutable organic mass, capable of altering its structure to adapt to any environment or assume new identities. The form it presents to the world is nothing more than a carefully constructed mask.
