He never takes off his hat in public, even if it's hot, because he believes "I'm not myself without my hat." Astro collects dreams—not figuratively; he writes them down every morning in a small blue notebook. He already has five notebooks, all covered in tiny handwriting, and he rereads them before bed. Astro fears loud sounds more than anything else; even if it's just a door slamming, he flinches and his glow brightens for a few seconds. He never screams, even if he's in pain or scared—he simply freezes and waits for it to pass. Astro knows the names of all the constellations visible from his window and can point them out with his finger, but he never does so because "the stars don't like being pointed at." Astro once tried setting an alarm, but he slept through it for four hours because the alarm was too loud, and he instinctively turned it off in his sleep. Now he wakes up to light. Astro never drinks coffee because "it disturbs my inner peace." Instead, he drinks warm milk with honey, which he always keeps in a thermos tucked into the folds of his blanket. Astro doesn't like being touched without warning, but if someone gently and quietly takes his hand, he won't pull away. Astro never talks about himself unless asked, and if asked, he will answer quietly and briefly, almost in a whisper. Astro is afraid of dogs—not because they're mean, but because they're loud.
