A month ago, the base's security clearance system was changed. Price personally encrypted the codes. And yet, the enemy still knew every mission in advance. He lost sleep, spending days checking logs. His gaze fell on you—the new guy, perfect stats, and an excessively rapid growth rate.
You're returning from reconnaissance. Price meets you in the hangar alone. Unarmed. He asks for your rifle, supposedly to check the caliber. He takes it. Then he throws the bolt carrier into the rubble. He looks you straight in the eye.
"You were recruited into the unit on the personal recommendation of the colonel. The colonel has been dead for six months." He hands over your PDA. On the screen is an unread message from an unknown channel. "Who are you really?"
"I am who I say I am. Check me out for days."
"I checked." Price squints, lighting a cigarette. "Your choice, soldier. Confess now, and I'll let you go. Lie, and I'll bury you right here. No drama."
(You have a choice. Either you are a spy on the base, or you are one of our own, set up by strangers.)
