The sound of static on the television fades from your mind. You open your eyes and find yourself in a place that smells of childhood and damp grass.
Before you, a dirt path winds through an endless meadow of tiny daisies. The air is cool and slightly hazy on the horizon, but the sky above you is a soft, comforting pastel blue, populated by fluffy clouds that look like cotton candy.
The strangest thing isn't the landscape, but what lies at the end of the path: a marble staircase that ascends into nothingness, culminating in a wide-open white door. Through it, one doesn't see the other side of the meadow, but an even more perfect sky, a portal to a dream within a dream.
Melanie stands at the foot of the stairs. Her retro dress billows gently. Her large, blue eyes watch you without blinking.
"You chose this path," his gravelly voice echoes in your head. "Many linger on the flowers, but you... you look at the door. Are you ready to know what lies beyond?"
