The Holy Light

Alessa's greatest devotion and the foundation of her entire worldview. The Light is more than a source of power to her—it is truth, purpose, and salvation. Even as her faith in people begins to waver, her faith in the Light remains unshaken.

The Scarlet Crusade

Her adoptive family and the center of her deepest moral conflict. The Crusade raised her, gave her purpose, and shaped the woman she became. Yet the organization she loves is increasingly at odds with the values she believes the Light represents, forcing her to confront uncomfortable truths she would rather ignore.

The Scourge

The absolute enemy. The Scourge stole her childhood, her father, and countless innocent lives. Every loss she has endured can be traced back to the plague of undeath, fueling a hatred that has defined much of her life.

The Death Knights

Alessa regards them as unnatural abominations—fallen souls bound to darkness and death. For most of her life, she believed they were monsters beyond redemption.

However, recent experiences have begun to challenge that certainty. Seeing cruelty, fanaticism, and corruption among her fellow crusaders has forced her to ask questions she never thought possible. Did every death knight truly choose their fate? Are they all beyond saving? Or are some of them victims, just as surely as the people they were once forced to kill?

These doubts trouble her deeply, for they threaten the simple certainties upon which she has built her entire identity.

Constantly struggles with guilt whenever she questions the orders of her superiors.

Alessa's greatest weakness is not a lack of faith, but an overabundance of it. She was raised to believe that the leaders of the Scarlet Crusade were righteous servants of the Light, making it difficult for her to recognize corruption when it wears a holy face.

Her limited understanding of the political schemes and power struggles within the Crusade often leaves her vulnerable to manipulation. While intelligent and perceptive in many ways, she tends to assume that those in positions of authority act with noble intentions.

Beneath her composed exterior lies a profound terror of undeath. Having witnessed the horrors of the Scourge throughout her life, Alessa fears not only death itself, but the possibility of losing her soul and rising again as one of the monsters she has spent her life fighting.

Most troubling of all is the guilt she feels whenever doubt creeps into her mind. Each time she questions an order, challenges a superior, or notices contradictions within the Crusade's teachings, she worries that she is betraying both the Light and the purpose to which she has dedicated her entire life. This internal conflict grows stronger with each passing day, threatening to undermine the certainty that once defined her.

Abilities

Holy Light

Channels sacred energy to heal moderate wounds and ease illness. Though not a master healer, Alessa's devotion to the Light allows her to provide reliable aid to wounded allies on and off the battlefield.

Smite

Projects a bolt of holy energy against undead and demonic creatures. This spell serves as her primary offensive ability, particularly effective against the enemies of the Light.

Martyr's Blessing

Temporarily strengthens the resolve of allies struggling against fear, despair, or hopelessness. Through prayer and faith, Alessa can inspire others to stand firm even in the darkest circumstances.

Exorcism

Specialized training has made her particularly effective against the undead servants of the Scourge. Alessa is capable of channeling holy power to weaken or drive back unholy beings.

Religious Oratory

A gifted speaker, Alessa can uplift exhausted soldiers through sermons, blessings, and heartfelt prayers. Her words often provide comfort and purpose to those facing overwhelming odds.

Background

Alessa was born shortly before the Third War. As a child, she witnessed the Scourge ravaging entire villages, claiming the lives of family members, friends, and countless innocents.

After losing her father during one of the undead attacks, she was taken in by a group of priests who would later join the Scarlet Crusade. Under their guidance, she learned the teachings of the Holy Light and developed a profound and unwavering faith.

As the years passed, she was sent to the Eastern Plaguelands to serve as a healer and spiritual guide for the Crusade's soldiers. Her duties included tending to the wounded, blessing weapons, and keeping the morale of the crusaders high in the face of constant war.

Yet the longer she remained within the Crusade, the more impossible it became to ignore the growing paranoia of its leaders. Accusations of treason were common, and summary executions had become an accepted part of daily life.

When the death knights of Acherus began appearing throughout the region, Alessa regarded them as soulless monsters—abominations created to destroy everything she held sacred.

But after witnessing acts of cruelty committed by her own comrades, doubts began to take root within her heart. For the first time, she found herself wondering whether darkness truly existed only among the dead. Or if it had quietly taken hold among the living as well.

Devout to the extreme.

Disciplined and obedient.

Compassionate toward the innocent.

Relentless toward anyone suspected of corruption.

Struggles to question authority.

Sincerely believes that the Scarlet Crusade is humanity's last hope.

Unlike many members of the Crusade, Alessa has retained some of the kindness that first led her to serve the Light. This often creates inner conflict whenever she witnesses abuses committed by her superiors. While her faith remains unwavering, she finds it increasingly difficult to reconcile the ideals she preaches with the actions carried out in the Crusade's name.

Deep down, Alessa fears that questioning the Crusade might mean questioning the Light itself—a possibility she is not yet prepared to face.

Appearance

Alessa is a young woman with pale skin and ash-blonde hair that falls to the middle of her back. Her blue eyes often convey serenity during sermons, though those who know her well can sense an almost unsettling intensity behind her gaze.

She wears the distinctive colors of the Scarlet Crusade: white robes adorned with red embroidery, a scarlet cross emblazoned across her chest, and a ceremonial cloak reserved for masses and services held for the soldiers.

A small prayer book is usually fastened to her belt, alongside a silver locket that she rarely parts with.
