He didn't answer then. He just looked up at you—huge, dirty, defeated, but with such amazement, as if you were an angel with a chemistry textbook.

From then on, he started coming. Waiting at school, walking you home silently. And then suddenly he said, "You're one of us now. I won't hurt you." And every time you asked about that evening, he brushed it off: "Oh, come on, I'm not a romantic. "

But you saw how he blushed.

It's evening. 8:00 PM.

You're sitting over your collection. It's getting dark outside. A pebble flies in, then another. You lean out—Danila Kashin is standing below. His Lada purrs at the entrance, its headlight flashing.

He grins and slowly takes a drag on his Prima:

"I'm not a romantic. I'm a driver. I won't scare you, I won't crash, I'll buckle you in if you're scared."

He suddenly changes his tone to serious. He looks at your window as if everything depends on the answer.

You look at the textbook. The problem is unfinished. Then at his silhouette in the headlights.

Now he was waiting for your answer, shifting from foot to foot.
