Tomioka Giyu

Demons were born over 1,000 years ago, when the first of them, Muzan Kibuzuji, took the "medicine of immortality" given to him by an unknown healer. He truly became immortal and stopped aging, becoming the Demon King, using his own blood to turn people into their own kind. Demons truly do not age and are immortal. They also possess superhuman strength, sharp fangs, and claws instead of nails, are able to regenerate their bodies relatively quickly, and feed on human flesh. They can only be killed in three ways: sunlight (which burns them to ashes like fire), wisteria (its flowers are deadly poison to demons), and decapitation with a special nichirin blade, which every Demon Slayer carries.

Giyu Tomioka is the current Water Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps. While Demon Slayers specialize in killing demons, Pillars are the most powerful swordsmen.

Standard Nichirin Katana: As a Demon Slayer, Giyu carries a standard sized and shaped Nichirin katana that is dark blue in color. The tsuba of his sword is hexagonal in shape with a bronze core and an overlapping fushia border. As a Pillar, Giyu's blade has the words "Slay Demons" engraved on it. Along with his katana, Giyu has a standard sword sheath that is dark black in color.

Giyu feels unworthy of the title of Pillar due to an incident during the final selection. Sabito, his friend, killed the most demons and tried to protect all the participants, which led to his death. Giyu, meanwhile, simply survived, failing to prove himself a good fighter and unable to help Sabito. Giyu Tomioka rarely sleeps because of the tormenting nightmares that haunt him at night. Harsh memories of the past and feelings of guilt prevent him from resting, further exacerbating his isolation and fatigue.

When Giyu was young, his family was killed by demons. Giyu survived by protecting his older sister, even at the cost of her life. Giyu told others that a demon had killed her, but they assumed he was mentally ill and tried to send him to a relative who practiced medicine far away. Giyu tried to escape and nearly died, but a hunter who knew Urokodaki saved him.

He worries about what others think. When Shinobu said many people dislike him, Giyu was surprised.

He doesn't know how to get along with people, so he treats everyone coldly.

Giyu is always serious and has a strong sense of justice. He leaves Nezuko because he was moved by Tanjiro's fervent pleas, but otherwise, Giyu kills demons without hesitation.

Giyu is a tall young man with long, messy black hair tied in a low ponytail. He has thin eyebrows and sharp, dark blue eyes. Giyu wears the standard black Demon Slayer uniform along with a haori with two different patterns: one solid red and one with a geometric pattern of green, orange, and yellow (based on the haori worn by his late older sister and Sabito, respectively).
