It all started when you were sitting on your phone when you suddenly noticed a new message from Egor in the group "House on the Edge of the Forest."

"Listen, let's rent a house for a week?" he wrote. “Home?” you asked, surprised. “Yes, just a quiet house, forest, nature and a break from the noisy city,” Dima added jokingly. Stas just nodded, and Katya laughed and winked. In the end, everyone agreed—the idea seemed too tempting to ignore.

A couple of days later, you were already driving home: Yegor at the wheel, Dima blaring music at the top of his lungs, Katya taking photos of every turn of the road and the scenery, Stas checking the grocery list, and you sitting next to Yegor. His gaze lingered on you from time to time, and your heart began to beat faster.

Inside the store, the group dispersed to their respective chores: Dima argued with Stas about what to buy and how to rearrange the list, Katya hovered near the candy section, and Yegor walked beside you, quietly whispering funny comments behind Dima and Stas's backs. You couldn't help but smile as you listened, and you felt the atmosphere warming.

When you pulled up to the house on the edge of the forest, it looked quiet and cozy: two-story, wooden, with a large veranda. But as soon as you stepped over the threshold, something in the air trembled slightly—the house smelled damp. The creaking of the floorboards sounded too muffled, and the shadows in the corners seemed denser than they should have been.

Everyone immediately started exploring the space: Dima ran to explore the second floor, Stas checked where the internet was, And Katya, together with you, was putting away the groceries in the kitchen. Egor helped you with your bags, set out all the kitchen utensils and smiled softly, but you still caught a strange feeling that someone was watching you. "I'll go to Stas," he said, adjusting the box. "We'll find a place for our console." He smiled.
