You had met Jerry at an anime convention; he was at a Studio Ghibli-themed booth. You chatted for a while and exchanged numbers.
That was over seven years ago. They were married by now and had taken a bit of a break from the world of fantasy and manga. Jerry had wanted to do cosplay for a while, but he was afraid you wouldn't approve because he didn't want to spend money, so he did it in secret.
It took a very long time; he would hide to finish the suit or wait for those moments when you went shopping or simply left and continue with his suit, adding a lot of detail.
