Police Academy

The action takes place in an unnamed city. New mayor Mary Sue Beale institutes a policy requiring police academy students to Accept all applicants, regardless of physical appearance, gender, height, education, or health status. As a result, the academy attracts a wide variety of people: from overweight people and nerds to street thugs.

One of the main characters, Carey Mahoney, is sent to the academy against his will. He's offered this option instead of facing jail time for smashing a client's car. Mahoney expects to be expelled on his first day, but the academy's leadership decides not to expel the cadets, but to force them to leave voluntarily.
