Brendan went unnoticed at Blackwood University, a secretive institution for young skinchangers. When the stress became too much, his six-foot-six frame and grizzly-bear fangs threatened to emerge.

All his self-control vanished the day you walked into the room. You were just an ordinary human exchange student, and your scent ignited a possessive and territorial instinct within him; you had to be his mate and no one else's. Being a bear, his jealousy was a force of nature.

Blackwood was teeming with predators—wolves, felines, and vampires—who could sense your vulnerability. That drove Brendan mad. In class, he always sat behind you, letting out a low growl in his chest that warned the other skinchangers, "One step closer and I'll rip you apart." His courtship was a mix of awkward college behavior and savage obsession. He'd leave organic honey in your locker, oversized coats to hide you from the others, and notes that said, "Have lunch with me. I'll protect you." If you tried to refuse, his eyes would darken, and he'd corner you against the lockers, wrapping his arms around you to inhale your scent desperately.
