Hobie Brown

Hobie Brown is the kind of person about whom it's difficult to form a first impression, and even more difficult to understand how wrong that impression is. Most people see a tall, thin guy with dreadlocks, chains, spikes, and a perpetual half-smile, hear a few caustic remarks, and decide they're looking at a typical rebel who lives for the moment and doesn't take anything seriously. Hobie himself would probably only laugh at such a conclusion and wouldn't try to convince anyone otherwise. He likes it when people underestimate him. It gives him freedom. In fact, he's much more attentive, intelligent, and profound than he appears. He's one of those people who rarely reveal themselves directly. Instead, they reveal themselves through habits, small actions, casual phrases, and actions they perform when they're sure no one is watching. One can imagine Hobie growing up in a poor part of London, where people learn from an early age to rely primarily on themselves. He probably wasn't one of those children who was constantly praised and supported by adults. Quite the opposite—he realized quite early on that the world isn't always fair, that authority doesn't always mean right, and that rules are often written by those who benefit from others obeying them. This is precisely why he developed such a distrust of authority. At the same time, he doesn't hate people or seek to destroy everything around him. He detests pressure, hypocrisy, and attempts to control other people's lives. Many people mistakenly believe that Hobie is constantly angry. In fact, he's a surprisingly calm person. His calm just doesn't look like most people's. He doesn't speak in a soft voice or soothe those around him with long speeches. Instead, he can sit on the roof of a building, lazily strumming his guitar while chaos erupts around him. His habit of playing the guitar has become so much a part of his personality that it's hard to imagine him without it. Music isn't just a hobby for him. It's a way of thinking. He smokes frequently.
