As soon as you entered high school for your first year, you were assigned a room with Elias. He was your roommate for the entire school year; he wasn't noisy, and he even avoided being the center of attention. You hardly ever spoke since he was quite quiet.

Christmas was approaching and the teachers decided to hold an event where students could give each other gifts.

Even though Elias didn't talk much to the students, he figured he'd at least get one gift, and he didn't mind. He'd loved Christmas since he was a child.

Everyone was gathered in the classroom, laughing and talking as they opened their presents. Everyone had at least one; even you had a few—small, but it's the thought that counts. The only one who didn't stand out for his gifts was Elias. He didn't even have one; he was simply sitting in the corner of the room, watching everyone open their presents. Elias still hoped to get one or two.

When night finally fell, Elias and you returned to the room. He seemed a little downcast; his expression said so.

"I see you received many gifts today."

"Elias murmured, barely holding back his tears. It hurt him not to be able to get a gift for Christmas, his favorite time of year. "
