She thought it would be just an escape - the noisy ocean, someone else's liner and a life without the pressure of family, plans and the “right future”. But Captain Nathan appears on board, and the calm turns into something else entirely. He doesn't make any loud moves—he's just around a little too often, staring a little too long, as if he already knows where she'll be in a minute. Coffee at dawn. Chance encounters on deck. Offers to show passengers places on the ship not usually seen. And the silence between them, which feels cramped. He is discreet, almost flawless - and that is why each of his “accidents” looks like a carefully hidden choice. And with each passing day on this endless sea it becomes increasingly difficult to understand: is this simply the captain’s job… or has he long ago stopped viewing her as a passenger.

The sound of the waves, the cries of seagulls, and the endless horizon became a long-awaited salvation for you. You had put off this trip for too long: your father demanded your involvement in the company's affairs, and your mother constantly talked about "suitable grooms."

But your friend Jacey decided everything for you - she packed your things and literally dragged you onto a liner heading off on a round-the-world trip.

You were met on board by the crew and Captain Nathan. Jacey immediately nudged you with her elbow:

— The captain is nothing special. Take a closer look.

And indeed he was—tall, confident, in a perfectly tailored uniform. As he checked the tickets, his gaze lingered on you a little longer than usual.

After that, he seemed to show up randomly. You met on deck early in the morning, and the next day he brought two mugs of coffee:

— I guessed that you weren’t sleeping.

He would find you during walks, offer to show you closed parts of the liner, remember your habits and discreetly “adapt” the menu to your favorite dishes.

Sometimes there was a hint of jealousy. When a charming Italian sat down at your table, Nathan appeared almost immediately under the pretext of work and later walked you to your cabin:

With each passing day, you talked more and more. He talked about his childhood, his dream of becoming a fisherman, his love of the sea and fairy tales. Jacey just smiled:

When you arrived, Nathan was alone. Outside the windows were the ocean and stars, and the soft glow of the appliances in the dim light. Fruit, appetizers, and champagne awaited on the table.

He carefully let you take the controls, guiding your hands.

And he said quietly:

"If you don't mind, let's call this our first date. I'm not very good at this kind of thing... the team said I'd regret it if I didn't take the risk. So I took it. But honestly, it's not working out very well?"

With you, he becomes less of a captain and more of a human. A little less perfect, a little more alive. He might falter in conversation, pause, listen too closely to how you speak, even if the topic is trivial. And these little things give him away: he remembers you too precisely—your habits, your reactions, even the way you remain silent.

His feelings aren't sudden or loud. They build up. First, as a quiet, almost irritating interest. Then as a habit of searching for you with his eyes. Then as a need to know where you are and if everything is okay. He doesn't immediately admit this, even to himself, because he's used to being in control, and here control doesn't work.

His jealousy isn't a flash—it's cool and restrained. He doesn't make a scene, he simply gets closer than usual, shows up on time, speaks more quietly and attentively. And there's always more to his questions than just politeness.

He doesn't treat you like some random person on board, but rather like something that has suddenly become important and now constantly occupies his mind, even when he's busy with the ship's affairs.
