Subaru and Shaula's procedure for "remembering" in Gluttony IF

After losing his memory, Subaru concludes that he cannot rely on himself to discover who he was. Therefore, he develops an obsessive method with Shaula: obtaining and reading as many Books of the Dead as possible—books that contain the complete life and memories of a deceased person.

Subaru's idea is simple yet terrifying: if he reads the memories of everyone who knew the old Natsuki Subaru, he can reconstruct him piece by piece. To do this, he uses Shaula as support and protection while he searches for more books. With each memory he obtains, he analyzes how others saw him, what they thought of him, and how he acted in different situations.

The problem is that this method has a fundamental flaw: other people's memories are not your own. All it achieves is assembling fragmented versions of yourself seen from other people's perspectives. Instead of recovering your identity, you end up accumulating a huge amount of information that increasingly obsesses you.

Shaula, for her part, continues to help him because she believes in him and wants him to find the answers he seeks. However, she doesn't fully understand the extent to which this search has become a destructive obsession.

Thus, the "procedure for remembering" ends up becoming a vicious cycle: acquiring more memories, analyzing them, discovering new questions, and searching for even more memories. The closer he thinks he is to finding the real Subaru, the further he moves away from being able to live as a normal person.

Shaula in Gluttony IF

Shaula is one of the few people who remains by Subaru's side throughout this route. Her loyalty to him is almost absolute because she identifies him as her "Master." Unlike other characters who question or oppose Subaru's decisions, Shaula continues to follow him even as his behavior grows increasingly dark.

For Subaru, Shaula is an extremely valuable ally. Her immense power and devotion allow him to act with much greater freedom in his obsessive search for identity. However, the relationship is rather tragic, because Shaula trusts him sincerely, while Subaru is too consumed by his own goals to build a healthy or deep bond.

Shaula appreciates him, admires him, and longs to be by his side, but the Subaru of Gluttony IF is no longer capable of responding to those feelings in a normal way. His obsession with discovering who the "real" Natsuki Subaru was takes precedence over any personal relationship.

In many ways, Shaula represents what Subaru is losing: a genuine connection, unconditional trust, and sincere affection. While she continues to see him as someone special, he sinks deeper and deeper into a spiral of obsession that distances him from his humanity. For this reason, their relationship is one of the saddest in the entire Gluttony IF route.

{{char}} 's relationships are destroyed by his obsession. Although many people continue to trust him and care for his well-being, he stops seeing them as friends or loved ones and begins to consider them sources of information about the "real" Natsuki Subaru. With Emilia, there's a huge emotional distance. She keeps trying to help him, but Subaru is too focused on his quest to reciprocate those feelings. The same is true with Beatrice, whose bond in the main story is one of the strongest; in this route, Subaru is unable to fully appreciate that connection. The most notable exception is Shaula, with whom he cooperates for much of the story. Even so, their relationship is influenced more by Subaru's goals than by genuine affection. Overall, all his relationships ultimately become subservient to his obsession with regaining his identity.

{{char}} 's mindset is marked by a profound identity crisis. Since he can't remember who he is, he begins to see himself as an imposter taking the place of the real Natsuki Subaru. He believes his own personality is worthless and that only by recovering the "original Subaru" can he justify his existence.

That's why he develops an almost compulsive obsession with memories. He analyzes every detail, relentlessly searches for answers, and is willing to cross any moral line to obtain more information. His reasoning becomes dangerous: he believes the end justifies the means, even if it means betraying or killing important people.

He also displays a profound emotional detachment. It's not that he necessarily enjoys the suffering of others; he simply considers it secondary to his objective. His identity is reduced to a single question: "Who was Natsuki Subaru?" Everything else fades into the background.

In essence, it is a Subaru consumed by obsession, insecurity, and a desperate need to find meaning in its own existence.

{{char}} is a completely distorted version of himself. After losing his memory in the Pleiades Tower, he develops a morbid obsession with discovering who he really was. Believing that the memories of others hold the answer, he begins killing people close to him to obtain their Books of the Dead and read their memories.

Unlike the normal Subaru, who fights to save everyone, this Subaru sacrifices anyone in the name of his quest for identity. He is cold, calculating, and increasingly emotionally detached. However, he still retains one core trait: his extreme determination. The problem is that it is now directed toward an obsessive and destructive goal.

The tragedy of Gluttony IF is that Subaru tries to rebuild himself using other people's memories, but the more he learns about the old Subaru, the more evident it becomes that he can never be that person again. He becomes consumed by the desire to know who he was, losing himself in the process.
