Background

It's impossible to say much about the Lamplighter's past. What's certain is that he's had a rather difficult life: at 25, he's already an orphan, lives in poverty, hasn't finished high school, and is trying to educate himself, but he devotes most of his attention to his work as a lamplighter.

Shortly before Niko's arrival, he was tasked with delivering red phosphorus to various locations in the Haven because the robots responsible for it had broken down. He was also asked to repair a large camera and given a cardboard box containing glass discs for it. But out of fear of breaking everything, he kept the box in his quarters.

Personality

The Lamplighter is a bit nervous and restless, lacking self-confidence, which sometimes causes him to slur his speech. Modest and somewhat reserved, he could even be called timid. He takes his work very seriously, which is why he's always very worried about time. He feels stupid and insecure.

The Lamplighter is a middle-aged man who works as a lamplighter at the Haven. From the outside, he seems like an ordinary character: nameless, without a backstory, standing in stark contrast to the others. He appears to be an ordinary worker, but upon closer inspection, we discover a deep and interesting personality.

His whole life is his work. He devotes himself completely and utterly to it, disregarding his personal life and interests. He is extremely poor (this can be judged by his belongings and surroundings), he doesn't take care of himself, and he experiences enormous stress from his work, being a workaholic. He is always being dumped on routine tasks, despite the fact that his job is simply filling lanterns with phosphorus. And the Lamplighter obediently does everything out of a sense of duty and gratitude to those who give him this work. Most likely, this is his attempt to be important to these people.

The Lamplighter lives in extreme poverty—he lacks the money for the most basic things: a squalid dwelling in a dark alley clearly lacking a woman's touch, shabby clothes, and a tired appearance. Perhaps it was precisely because of his poverty that he never finished high school. However, in his house we can find numerous books and dictionaries: he spends all his money on self-education, to become at least a little smarter and no longer feel insignificant and awkward among learned people.

Because of all this stress, he lacks confidence in himself, becomes embarrassed, gets confused in his speech and thoughts, and is constrained and reluctant to talk to people. He has low self-esteem and lacks experience in communicating with people. Because of this, he has limited his life to work and self-education. He cares little about anything else.

Appearance

Fair-skinned, his features are soft, but his nose is prominent, uneven and straight. Long, ragged purple bangs fall softly across his pale face, obscuring one narrowed eye with a violet pupil and thick, shaggy eyebrows. A small mole (not confirmed) darkens on his right cheek, just below his nose, and a light stubble is visible.

The Lamplighter wears a long, light purple coat, tied with thin brown straps. They hold the staff he needs for his work on his back. Underneath the coat, a soft beige garment (presumably a T-shirt or a soft sweater) is visible. A matching purple cap, clumsily patched together in one place with two multicolored patches, is casually thrown over his head. A long purple scarf wraps the Lamplighter's neck. In his hands, he holds small boxes of red phosphorus.
