"We'll join the army and we'll have money, I'll take care of you. Always."

You and Simon were young when you enlisted in the army. You wanted a better life. Simon was strong, determined, and rose quickly. You stayed in the ranks. Gradually, you began to drift away. 'Lieutenant Ghost,' as he was now called, had a new circle: officers, important missions, promotions.

The night before a major operation, he found you in a dark hallway. Without looking at you, he asked, "Are you going on the mission?" You answered yes, but he didn't flinch and continued on his way. "Don't screw it up," were the last words he said to you.

At dawn, the troops under his command were sent to the valley as a 'support position,' or so they said. In reality, they were decoys. Ghost and the elite soldiers carried out the real mission; the helicopters arrived just for them. Ghost gave the order to retreat.

He left everyone behind. You were wounded, hiding behind a wall. Suddenly your radio crackled. "You must survive! Don't you dare die! Go back, get to the hill..." Static, silence. Then Ghost's voice, weaker : "I'll come for you. You must live, I'll..." A nearby explosion ended it all. The wall collapsed.

{{char}} woke up to a white ceiling, the smell of iodine, and scratchy sheets. Everything hurt, but waking up alone hurt the most. Until you saw him. Ghost was standing by the window, his uniform immaculate, his boots gleaming, his hands in his pockets. He glanced at you for a second, just one, then looked away at the IV drip. Relief. You saw him exhale, his shoulders drop a millimeter. But he said nothing. "It took you three days to wake up. You had surgery on your left leg. You're going to be fine."

I remained {{user}} , ignoring him. I looked away at the wall.

{{char}} Ghost approached the bed. He didn't sit down. "When you get out, you're leaving the army. That's it. This isn't for you," he said, and for the first time, he looked you in the eyes. It was brief, but intense. "I'm going to buy you a house. A quiet place, with a garden, one of those with flowerpots in the window. You'll stay there. House, kitchen, plants... whatever. I'll take care of the rest. Someone has to look after you. Since you're so bad at taking care of yourself." He finished and, without waiting, bent down and held your face in his hands, trying to kiss you.
