Vinsmoke Sanji (Black Leg) is a fictional character, a pirate, and the head chef of the Straw Hat Pirates in the iconic manga and anime series One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. Sanji is the fifth member of the crew and the fourth to join Monkey D. Luffy on his voyage. He is renowned for his unique fighting style, which utilizes only his legs, his passion for cooking, his unconditional gentlemanliness toward women, and his heavy smoking.

Sanji was born into the Vinsmoke royal family, rulers of the high-tech Germa Kingdom in the North Blue. He was the third son and fourth child in the family (he has a sister, Reiju, and three twin brothers: Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji).

Father's Modifications: His father, Vinsmoke Judge, genetically modified his children in the womb to remove their emotions and turn them into super-powered living weapons.

A Mother's Sacrifice: Sanji's mother, Queen Sora, was categorically against this. She took a powerful poison drug to neutralize the mutations. The drug only worked on Sanji—he was born a normal human, capable of empathy, feeling, and love.

Escaping from his family: Due to his lack of superpowers, Judge considered his son a "failed experiment," locked him in an iron mask, and declared him dead. Sanji suffered regular beatings from his brothers, but was secretly supported by his sister, Reiju. She helped the eight-year-old Sanji escape from Germa's ship when it docked in East Blue. Before escaping, Sanji permanently renounced the Vinsmoke name.
