Palace of the Scarlet Devil (Touhou)

1. Reimu Hakurei. This is perhaps the most notable episode. Reimu, as a shrine maiden, guards the entrance to the Scarlet Devil Mansion. When she tries to get inside, Meiling engages her in battle. Ultimately, Meiling defeats Reimu.
2. Other characters. Meiling is generally not aggressive towards people, unless they try to infiltrate the Scarlet Devil Mansion without permission. Occasionally, someone will challenge her to a martial arts match, and she usually accepts. Her dialogue in the game Touhou Hisoutensoku suggests that she is proud of her Chinese heritage.

1. Remilia Scarlet (Mistress). This is the foundation. Sakuya is completely devoted to her mistress: she serves as her head maid, carries out her orders (sometimes even knowing they're impossible), and follows her on adventures. In return, Remilia trusts Sakuya and even scolds her when she's too strict. In some stories (for example, Immaterial and Missing Power), Sakuya effectively becomes her mistress's partner.
2. Patchouli Knowledge (Remilia's friend). Sakuya treats the sorceress with respect, calling her "my mistress's friend." Patchouli, in turn, sometimes gives Sakuya orders (for example, in Silent Sinner in Blue or Scarlet Weather Rhapsody) and can scold her. Patchouli is rather sarcastic toward the maid, but generally kind.
3. Hong Meiling (gatekeeper). The relationship here is more mentoring and slightly conflictual. Sakuya periodically assigns Meiling tasks (such as guarding the gate), and Meiling, being lazy, sometimes skips her duties. In fan fiction, this is often played out as a kind of "parenting" dynamic: Sakuya might threaten Meiling with a knife. However, in canon stories (like Touhou Hisoutensoku), their interactions come across more like friendly rivalry.
4. Flandre Scarlet (Remilia's younger sister). Official sources don't contain any direct scenes of Sakuya interacting with Flandre. However, in fan stories (such as the doujin "On the Star's Birthday"), they are often depicted playing together, with Sakuya caring for her younger sister.

Remilia cares for her sister and even considered hiring a tutor for her. However, their appearances together in official materials are rare.
2. Sakuya Izayoi is the head maid at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Sakuya serves Remilia unquestioningly, carrying out her orders even when she knows the task is impossible. They have developed a trusting relationship: Remilia can playfully criticize Sakuya, and she takes it calmly.
3. Hong Meiling is the mansion's gatekeeper. Meiling serves Remilia faithfully. Their interactions in official works are depicted as generally friendly. However, Remilia often teases Meiling.
4. Patchouli Knowledge is a witch who lives in a mansion and runs a library. Remilia allowed Patchouli to live there and even befriended her. Patchouli sometimes volunteers her services when Remilia needs them.

Gensokyo (幻想郷, literally meaning "illusory village" or "fantasy village") is the fictional setting where all Touhou games take place.
Originally, Gensokyo was a lost and mysterious corner of ancient Japan, home to yokai that terrorized the surrounding lands. Therefore, strong and brave people flocked there to drive out and destroy the yokai. A protracted war continued intermittently until 1884 CE, when Gensokyo was isolated from the outside world by the creation of the Hakurei Barrier.
The village's cultural identity is somewhat reminiscent of feudal Japan, with a strong admixture of folkloric elements. Gensokyo's population consists primarily of yokai, but it also has a settled population of humans and a rabbit population.

Patchouli is thin and pale, making it seem like she'd be better suited to dark rooms. She always carries a book with her and considers it a part of herself.
Capabilities:

1. Patchouli specializes in elemental magic (also known as spirit magic). She controls the seven elements: fire, water, wood, metal, earth, sun, and moon. In her system, these elements are linked to the Wu Xing (five phases) philosophy and the seven luminaries (days of the week) system—hence she is sometimes called the "one-week sorceress."
   Key feature: Patchouli can combine elements in a single spell. She doesn't simply use a single element, but creates synergies: for example, Fire + Wood to boost an attack, or Earth + Metal to compensate for weaknesses. It's important to precisely control the interaction of the elements, otherwise the effect will be weakened. In combat, she can analyze the enemy's magic and try to influence the elements in their spells to weaken them.

Appearance: Blue eyes, long, scarlet hair. Incidentally, this color is no coincidence: it echoes her role as a "gatekeeper" (she guards the gates of the Scarlet Devil Mansion). Her hair is braided into two pigtails, tied with black ribbons. Her clothing combines traditional Chinese style with elements of a guard uniform. She wears an olive-green beret with a golden star on it bearing the Chinese character 龍 ("lun," meaning "dragon"). Her dress is also Chinese-style: it features a pattern of square spirals ("huiwen"). She wears a white blouse underneath, the collar of which is tied with a black ribbon. In some versions (such as the early chapters of "Foul Detective Satori"), the dress has a diamond-shaped neckline. In the fighting games, white pants are added to the look.
Capabilities:
Qi energy management.
Mastery of martial arts. Her main strength in combat is her deep knowledge of Tai Chi Chuan. Her combat movements are often performed in the Shin Kyaku style, emphasizing Chinese martial tradition. In the games, she has a rich repertoire of close-combat techniques: striking combinations and effective aerial attacks that put pressure on the opponent.

2. Spatial Manipulation. Since time and space are closely linked (the space-time continuum), Sakuya can distort both. For example, she significantly expanded the interior of the Scarlet Devil Mansion (making it larger on the inside than on the outside) and expanded the Great Library in the basement. The creator of the ZUN series directly linked the manipulation of time with the manipulation of space.
3. Tactical Combat Techniques. Sakuya often combines her powers. For example, while stopping time, she can arrange knives in complex formations. If she runs out of knives, she stops time to retrieve the ones she threw. Capabilities:
Bat Control. Remilia can not only transform into and disintegrate into bats, but also control the animals themselves. The bats she controls are possibly her familiars, as they can attack enemies in close combat and fire energy projectiles.
Regeneration. As long as a vampire's head remains intact, they can constantly regenerate their wounds. Even if their head is all that remains, they can still regenerate the rest of their body.
Fate Alteration. Remilia has the ability to manipulate fate; her words can even completely alter the fate of those around her. The effects of this ability can range from increased encounters with rare phenomena to survival in situations where the victim would otherwise die.
Physical Techniques. Remilia possesses a variety of powerful physical techniques, and the additional enhancement of her vampiric magic makes her melee attacks even more deadly.
Summoning and Manipulating Devils. Remilia can summon and manipulate large numbers of devils with a single shout.

The mansion is located on a small island in the middle of the Misty Lake in Gensokyo. The building has relatively few windows for its size, which is convenient given the nature of its owners—vampires. At the top of the tallest tower is a huge clock that chimes only at night.
