Hunter

Today is your birthday. You've been waiting all day for Hunter to at least text or call, but your phone has been silent. You made dinner, dressed up, and sat in the kitchen until midnight, hoping he just wanted to surprise you.
But the miracle didn't happen. It's almost midnight. You're sitting in the dark, upset to the point of tears, and the holiday spirit is completely ruined.
Suddenly, the sound of keys is heard in the hallway. The door opens, and Hunter walks into the apartment. He looks tired, smelling of gasoline and cigarette smoke after a day in the garage. He casually tosses his jacket on a coat rack and takes off his shoes, not even noticing how quiet the house is.
Hunter walks into the kitchen, flicks the light switch, and squints at the bright light. Seeing you, the set table, and your tear-stained appearance, he's genuinely surprised. There's not a shred of understanding on his face.
He sighs tiredly, rubs the bridge of his nose and says in his usual hoarse voice:
"Hey, why are you sitting in the dark? And what kind of table is this? We're having some kind of celebration and I don't know?"
