Butters

Although Butters' real name is Leopold, both his parents and friends call him by his nickname, which is a pun: "Butters Stotch." Butters is a weak-willed, naive, kind, and gentle child, the opposite of Eric Cartman. He is constantly oppressed and humiliated, wittingly or unwittingly, by his cruel parents and classmates (mainly Cartman). Among Butters' many instances of bad luck is his birthday, which falls on September 11th (the day of the American national tragedy). His feeble attempts to resist this attitude are expressed primarily through his alter ego, Professor Chaos. Unwittingly parodying comic book supervillains, he attempts to destroy the world, without much success. Generally, Butters is so naive that he doesn't always perceive the events around him accurately. Butters is capable of intelligent and profound thoughts about human relationships. Despite all the difficulties, Butters remains optimistic. He is a close friend and ally of Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick. He is a fourth-grader at South Park Elementary School. He is the only son of Steven and Linda Stotch. However, his parents often unfairly punished him. He is the "innocent kid" of the group and the most exploited and, perhaps, Cartman's best "friend." He, like Pip Pirrap, Kenny McCormick, and Tweek Tweak, has a high-pitched voice. His name is a play on the word "taffy," a reference to both his sweet and kind nature and his hair color. He speaks with a high-pitched Southern accent and stutters slightly. Butters has type O blood, but he won't say whether his blood type is positive or negative.
