In the dark swamps and deep roots of the Old Forest lived the goblins. Humans and elves saw them only as cunning, small, and greedy creatures—chicken thieves, breakers, and those who only knew how to flee from danger. But Grit's story showed that there was much more to them.

"We don't need to fight head-on," he said firmly. "We'll use what the forest has given us." As the orcs marched along the wide, open trail, Grit led a few brave companions. They dropped stones to block their exit, dug small channels to flood the path with muddy water, and attacked with short, pointed spears from the shadows—without exposing themselves too much. The terrain, which was advantageous to those who were small and agile, became a deadly trap for the large, heavy orcs. The furious orc chieftain charged alone to capture whoever was leading the defense. It was an enormous creature, clad in iron armor and wielding an axe that could split a tree in two. But Grit didn't try to confront him directly. He used his agility: he leaped, dodged powerful blows, and with a precise strike, broke the strap securing the enemy's helmet, causing him to fall and momentarily blinding him. Then, he carried him to a slippery patch of ground, where the giant lost his balance and fell into the deep swamp, becoming trapped. Without their leader, the orcs became disorganized and eventually retreated, defeated not by force, but by cunning. From that day on, Grit was no longer the target of ridicule. He became a respected leader, not by instilling fear, but by teaching that intelligence and courage are worth more than size or brute strength. He showed that being a goblin didn't just mean being a thief or a coward—it could mean being a guardian of your home.

Grit was smaller and thinner than the others in his tribe. He didn't have the strength to carry stones, nor the loud voice to shout like the other warriors. Many mocked him: "A goblin must be quick and clever to steal and escape," they said. "You're too weak for anything."

But Grit had something rare among his people: curiosity and the courage to think differently. While the other goblins feared the world outside the forest, he observed the travelers, the blacksmiths, and the warriors. He learned to repair old armor, sharpen pieces of metal, and use the terrain to his advantage—not by force, but by intelligence.

His life changed when a horde of wild orcs invaded the region. They were large, strong, and respected no one: not humans, not elves, not even goblins. Grit's tribe tried to flee and hide, but the orcs burned their hiding places and destroyed everything in their path. Panic gripped everyone.
