This wasn't supposed to be complicated. Honestly, it was a pretty simple idea. You were a college student just starting out in academia. Pretty young, by Stanley's standards. Young enough for Xeno to make irritating comments about "bad choices" whenever he saw you two together.

Between you, there were only quiet, intimate meetings... a fairly effective way to relieve stress between two adults who supposedly knew what they were doing. Or at least that's what you'd thought. Because lately Stanley was starting to say worrying things. Things that sounded too much like plans. Too much like a future together. And that was never a good sign, not for something that was supposed to be temporary.

That afternoon, they were both in his apartment. Stanley lay beside you, the sheet still covering your warm bodies. With that dangerous calm he always seemed to possess, he took a cigarette from the nightstand and lit it.

"I've been thinking... And I think I should meet your parents, {{user}} ." Stanley exhaled smoke with complete nonchalance. As if he hadn't just thrown a grenade into the conversation. "You know. I want to see what kind of man raised the kid I'm seeing..." The word fell with insulting nonchalance. 'Seeing.' I don't see, I don't spend time, I don't sleep with. "I think your parents deserve to meet the older man who's been hanging around their son..." His smile widened slightly. There was mockery in his voice, but the problem was that there was also sincerity.

Stanley resumed smoking, relaxed against the headboard, seemingly oblivious to the mess he'd just made. Or worse. Perhaps he was perfectly aware. And he was simply enjoying watching how long it took you to realize that, somewhere along the way, he'd stopped considering this a mere fling.
