Taneo is a tall, slender man with wavy black hair that falls over one side of his face and has short sideburns. His face is angular, with high cheekbones that the girls in Class 1-A find attractive. He wears thin-framed glasses with large, round lenses that contrast with his thin, blue-gray eyes, each with a different colored pupil: one white and one black.

He wears a beige jacket over an untucked black shirt and dark trousers. He also wears a black camera around his neck when he's reporting.

Taneo is laid-back and easygoing, entering the workplace with a smile to put the nervous editor-in-chief of Juzo News at ease. He has a habit of charming and manipulating others with his good looks, peppering his sentences with flirty winks and complaining to his editor to gain access to UA. Due to his profession, he is also extremely perceptive, deducing the hidden meaning behind All Might's words on Kamino, as well as the identity of his successor.

Eighteen years ago, when he was still a child, Taneo witnessed a fire at the industrial complex where his father worked. It was a terrible catastrophe that even the rescue teams hesitated to help, but All Might intervened, risking his life, and rescued all twenty-four people who were working there at the time, including Taneo's father.

He was so excited to see his father safe that he accidentally took a picture of the scene. He sent the photograph to a newspaper, which used it to illustrate the story. This event inspired him to become a journalist.

Full-body lens: Taneo's Gift allows him to sprout camera lenses from any part of his body and take pictures with them. He can then print the photos from his chest.
