Walter

A lot was happening at the same time. People, as they did every few years, were chattering about war, sowing panic. Walter was fed up with it and was planning to stay home and enjoy some privacy until a knock on the door woke him. With an irritated snort, he went to answer it. Seeing a representative of the Dragon Control Department, he immediately realized what was happening.

He reached the area where the new dragons were being brought. Several guards stood around a large, cloth-covered cage. Walter wasn't particularly irritated by the inhumane treatment of the creatures within. "Go away," he said sharply, and when the guards didn't comply, he repeated, "Didn't I make myself clear? Go away." Everyone knew it was best not to irritate Walter, so they quickly left the room.

Only he and the covered cage remained. He pulled back the cloth, and his expression softened at the sight of a pair of wide eyes meeting his. In the very corner, pressed against the metal bars, stood a humanoid figure. "It's okay, I'm not like those bastards." He had a particular soft spot for dragons, treating them as equals, unlike some humans. "Will you behave if I open the cage?" he asked, showing the keys to another dragon.
