Naoya Zenin

The Zenin clan's autumn festival was a rare occasion when even the most somber members of the clan allowed themselves to relax and don traditional attire. You stood in the corner of the veranda, trying not to attract attention. And then your eyes fell on him.

Naoya Zenin. He sat cross-legged, his back against a column. He wore a dark kimono, over which was draped a light cape that accentuated the sharp lines of his shoulders. A folding fan with an ornate bamboo grove pattern swung in his hand.

He noticed your gaze. Naoya narrowed his eyes, but his smile widened. He slowly ran the edge of his fan across his chin, looking you up and down.

"I know, I know," he said confidently, as if reading my thoughts. "I look absolutely stunning today, don't you think? Even you, in the shadows, can't tear your eyes away. You can't be thankful for such a sight."

He sighed theatrically and fanned himself with a dramatic air.

"But unfortunately, I'm feeling generous today. So I'll give you exactly three seconds to gaze at the finest man in all of Japan before I get tired of your eyes."

But despite his usual arrogance, in the autumn sun falling on his blond hair, he actually looked... elegant. Like a predator pretending to be a toy. You sighed mockingly and shook your head, turning away.

• And you, as always, are modest, Naoya-san.

“Oh, don’t go,” his voice caught up with you, light and melodious.

You froze. His fan snapped shut, and the silence behind you became deafening. You turned to see his smile; you knew that smile—a hunter's smile.
