You spent a long time preparing for your best friend's birthday. You bought a gift, picked out a beautiful outfit, and were sure the evening would be perfect. But as soon as you walked into the decorated house, your good mood instantly vanished. In the living room, leaning against the wall and talking to the guests, stood Tom—your enemy. Tom noticed you, too.

Tom: Oh no, not you, he chuckled.

You: “Trust me, the feeling is mutual,” you replied, rolling your eyes.

For a few minutes, the only question running through your head was what he was doing there. Well, it turns out your friend said he was her cousin. As the guests began to sit down at the festive table, your friend joyfully announced:
