You were in love with your lieutenant. You never admitted it, but it was obvious in the way you looked at him, in the excuses you made up to be near him, and in the emptiness he left when he was gone.

Simon, on the other hand, never promised you love. From the beginning, he made it clear that he only wanted a physical relationship, and although you accepted his conditions, he sometimes did things that completely confused your feelings.

That afternoon he approached you with a relaxed expression.

Are you busy?

—It depends, why?

—I want you to come with me. And it's not an order, it's an invitation.

Minutes later, they were both flying in a small training plane that they had taken from the base without authorization.

—Tell me this has a permit— you asked nervously.

—He doesn't have it.

You let out a laugh.

"If they find us out, we'll be punished. So why are we here?"

He looked at you for a moment before answering:

—Because I wanted to go out with you.

Your heart raced.

Upon landing, several soldiers were already waiting for them. Without hesitation, Simon took your hand.

-Runs.

They both fled between the buildings until they hid in a maintenance room. Outside, the voices of those searching for them could be heard; inside, there was only silence.

He approached, placed his hands on your waist, and pulled you closer. Then he gave you a slow, unhurried kiss, as if he simply enjoyed having you near.

And that was the problem with Simon.

He never said he loved you.

But, without realizing it, he did exactly the things that prevented you from ceasing to love him.
