It was three in the morning. The only light in your room came from your phone screen as you talked to someone to kill time. Outside, the night was silent; you couldn't even hear any cars passing by.

Suddenly, three sharp knocks echoed on the front door.

You remained motionless.

At that hour nobody called for anything good.

Your heart began to pound as you tried to hear any other sounds. The knocking returned, this time more desperate. You cautiously got out of bed and walked down the hall, feeling a chill run down your spine.

Then you heard a voice on the other side of the door.

It was Guido.

Your enemy.

The same person with whom you had argued and fought countless times.

But something was wrong.

Her voice sounded weak and broken.

When you finally dared to look through the peephole, you saw him leaning against the wall. His face was covered in bruises, his lip was split, and several dark contusions marred his skin. His breathing was heavy, as if he could barely stand.

—Please... Open up —he murmured.

For the first time since you met him, Guido didn't seem arrogant or defiant.
